While parents yearn for lazy mornings, another big appeal of summer vacation is the extra quality time that we can spend with our kids and pets. During the school year, our kids and dog don’t get to spend very much time together – but there are loads of fun summer activities for dog loving kids that can enhance their relationship.
If your kiddos are heading off to summer day-camp for a couple of weeks, surprise them with a love-note from the family dog in their lunchbox.
Sometimes the best summer days are ones spent outside, playing in the sunshine. But after a long day in the sun, it’s nice to come inside and relax. Instead of turning on the television, how about doing a fun craft, instead? We love these adorable Popsicle Stick Puppets, and thoroughly enjoy the silly stories that kids come up with when they use them in play.
Is your pooch working up an appetite after playing with your kids? Head to the kitchen for a family baking project…for the dog! We love this homemade dog treat recipe from our friend Liren. Not only is it fun to bake together, it teaches life skills that will serve the kiddos when they leave the nest. Your pooch will also reap the benefits of eating a treat made from real ingredients with no added chemicals or preservatives (#dumpthejunk!).
Time to get outside and burn off some of those dog-cookie calories! If your toddler always wants to help walk the dog, but you are concerned that he will get dragged away, here is a fantastic tip for safely walking the pooch together. Use two leashes! That way, if the dog gets a little too excited, you can help the dog stay close.
