Easy Recipe for Dog Treats to Make with Kids

Easy Recipe for Dog Treats to Make with Kids

Kids love to help – and when they know the beneficiary is the beloved family dog, all the better. Instead of buying dog treats at the store, you can spend some quality time together by making your own at home with the kids. This easy recipe uses common human-grade ingredients that you likely already have in the kitchen, such as flour, carrots and cheese, making these dog treats less expensive many you can purchase.

When I ran my cooking school for children, one of my favorite venues each year was summer camp at our local animal shelter. I would load up a cart with cooking supplies and ingredients, and spend the next 90 minutes cooking with up to 20 kiddos at a time. On the menu? Homemade treats for dogs, cats, and even wild birds! These recipes were so popular, the shelter is still using them today, over 10 years later!

I should warn you. These treats smell good. And they taste good. Ask me how I know…

When you download the recipe below, it comes with a guide with suggestions for how to share these treats with dogs who can use a little extra love, such as through your local animal shelter.

If you try the recipe or share any of the treats with dogs in your community, I’d love to hear about it on our Pooch Parenting Facebook Page. Extra credit for photos!
